The Oregon High Desert Classic II continued to bring great results for Maplewood. Held in Bend, Oregon, the second week of July 24-28 featured multiple wins and championships by Maplewood's homebreds by Osilvis and Cartouche Z.

Highlights included the $5,000 Mini Prix Victory by Onyx (by Osilvis) on owner Georgia Brown's birthday no less! Masterfully ridden by Andrew Teer Jayne, Onyx was also champion both weeks in the 1.20/1.25 Open Jumpers.

In addition, Cartridge (by Cartouche Z) earned the .90 championship with amateur Clara Tate in the irons.

“It’s so rewarding to see our homebreds win so much at the Oregon High Desert Classics these past two weeks!” said trainer and breeder Julie Winkel. “From the Children’s/Adult divisions to the Grand Prix, they really make us proud. We also have more young horses from these stallions, Osilvis and Cartouche Z, available to purchase at Maplewood. The future is bright as more of these horses begin their show ring careers and move up the ranks.”

Other OHDC successes included Maplewood’s Horse Industry Training Program student Elizabeth Beasley who earned the 1.05m Jumper championship aboard her own Joya. Maplewood client Stacey Martin made her show ring debut with her Nu Iago ETC, earning excellent ribbons in the .80/.85m Jumpers, while son Blake rode “Gogo” to a blue ribbon with in his first-ever leadline class!

Maplewood client Jennifer Mortensen and Temptress jumped to ribbons in the 1.15m Modified Junior/Amateur Jumpers during the week. And Temptress was also the winning mount for Andrew and Kevin as they captured their fourth consecutive Ride, Drive and Drink class on Thursday evening. The team named “Kegvin and Andbrew” took the class by storm, winning by more than 8 full seconds after a speedy jumping round, wheelbarrow obstacle course, chugging beers and a foot-race to the finish line.
