Maplewood's Adult Horse Camps have become legendary in the equestrian world and attract campers from across the country and Canada!
This fun and educational retreat is open to adults of all ages, riding abilities, professionals and amateurs. The common denominator attendees must have is that they want to learn and have a good time!
Julie Winkel hosts the second annual Young Riders Horsemastership Program at Maplewood for riders 13-18. Activities include riding lessons, educational seminars/lectures on conformation, grooming, stable management, feed and nutrition, bits and bitting, tack and equipment, judging and many other horsemanship topics.
Maplewood Summer Camps involve many fun activities in addition to plenty of riding time. From learning to groom and tack up their horses, our campers also enjoy learning about horse care, anatomy, equine behavior, tack, equipment and much more.
In addition, campers spend time on arts and crafts projects, games and other fun activities.
Lessons are split into groups, so there are opportunities for all levels of riders—from beginners to more advanced—to learn new skills and ride with campers of similar ability.

From halter breaking foals to backing 3-year-olds to preparing sport horse prospects for the International Jumper Futurity, the school offers a variety of educational opportunities, both in the classroom and in the arenas, to expand your horsemanship and training knowledge.

Led by clinicians Julie Winkel and Tricia Booker, Judge’s School takes the mystery of out judging Hunters and Equitation and allows you understand step-by-step the processes involved through an educational yet entertaining platform. In addition to the facts, you’ll hear first-hand accounts and stories from two judges with a combined 60+ years in the judge’s box. From learning how judges keep their cards and the process of scoring, to taking part in live judging of conformation, under saddle and jumping classes, you’ll never look at judging the same again while becoming a savvier competitor in the show ring!

Between her busy clinic schedule, Julie has decided to host a clinic at Maplewood on Tuesday and Wednesday December 28th and 29th!
A sign-up sheet will be in the office and auditing is available and encouraged! There will most likely be 3 groups, appropriate to every level.
The cost is $450 for both days and includes 2 hours of riding, auditing of all groups, lunch, and a lecture!

Jos Kumps, of Brussels, Belgium, owns and operates the Jos Kumps Training Center and has coached such riders as Rodrigo Pessoa, Michel Robert, Kevin Staut, Leopold Van Asten, Dermott Lennon, Alvaro de Miranda and Bernardo Alves. For more than half a century this “legend” has trained different riders from the bottom up to an Olympic level.
The first Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session of the year will feature Jim Wofford as the riding clinician and Nanci Snyder as the stable manager clinician at Maplewood Stables, May 31-June 4.
Sessions are held over five days with athletes participating in mounted flatwork, gymnastics exercises and coursework as well as intensive stable management lessons. Athletes also spend time auditing and hearing special presentations from guest speakers and experts in the industry at the sessions.
Auditing is available to the public for the riding portions of the Reno session for $50 a day.
