The Maplewood team scored huge successes during the Northern Winter Classics in Paso Robles, California, held March 1-5 and March 8-12. 

Highlights included Kevin Winkel's domination of the open and grand prix classes aboard his string of Maplewood homebreds. During Week 1, Kevin won the $10,000 Open Welcome Stake on Osophia (by Osilvis) and the $24,000 Grand Prix riding Optical Illusion (by Osilvis). 

Kevin's banner results continued during Week 2, when he topped the $5,000 Open Welcome on Optical Illusion and then earned blue in the $20,000 Grand Prix riding Osophia. Kevin was also third on Cartel (by Cartouche Z).

With his top placings, Kevin now stands first in the West Palms Event Management GGT-Footing Grand Prix Series Standings with 50 points over second-placed Mandy Porter (29) and third-placed Amanda Flint (26).

Maplewood Assistant Trainer Andrew Jayne sits 10th in the series standings after top-10 grand prix finishes aboard Georgia Brown's Onyx (by Osilvis).

Maplewood's Hunters and Jumpers collected a variety of honors during the Northern Winter Classics, with additional homebreds taking tricolors and blue ribbons from the Short Stirrup to the open jumpers. They included: Jillian Shaw and Ominous (by Osilvis), Susan Buntyn and Osilvana (by Osilvis), Jersey Hekemian and Outspoken (by Osilvis), Corinne Shaw and Julie Von Hennig's Osogrand (by Osilvis) and Tricia Booker with Carma (by Cartouche Z).

In addition, Maplewood-trained horses topped their respective divisions and classes, including Karen Dearmont and Annie Up, Juliet Hekemian and Black Star, Robin Mercer with Fergie, Andrew Jayne riding Candy's Gone, Mia Vilario and Dardam Q and Corrine Shaw aboard Cinnibon. 

Maplewood owner/trainer Julie Winkel also earned blue-ribbon honors on her own stallion Good To Know in the 1.20m jumpers. Good To Know is the third of the three stallions currently standing at Maplewood.

The GGT-Footings Series continues in April with the Flintridge Spring Classic, March 20-23, and 96th Annual Flintridge Horse Show, April 27-30, in Flintridge, California.
