Spring Brings Fun and Education

We had a fantastic time in San Juan Capistrano showing at The Blenheim Spring Shows the first two weeks of April. Andrew Jayne won two classes on our nice sale horse Cora Z in the 1.15m and 1.2m jumpers. I was happy to be in the top placings consistently in the 1.3m jumpers on Stallone, and Lucky and Toby moved up with good results to the 1.3m & 1.35m jumpers with Andrew. It was fun to stable next to Kevin Winkel and his horses and clients from Oregon.

During the break between the two Blenheim shows, I was the clinician for the USEF Hunter and Equitation Judges Clinic, so that kept me plenty busy!

On April 17, we hosted our fourth First Responders Horse Handling & Safety Clinic. We had a wonderful turnout and beautiful weather. This event is held twice a year and open to everyone in the community interested in learning more about horses and evacuation planning. For more information on the clinic, please see the recap here.

On April 20-21, I traveled to Chicago to teach a clinic for Country Ridge Stables, and the following Monday and Tuesday I was in Lexington, Kentucky to preside over Licensed Officials meetings at the United States Equestrian Federation office. It was a whirlwind week, and I was happy to return home just in time to prepare for a busy week at Maplewood.

We just wrapped up a great three-day clinic for 5 Star Equestrian and other riders, held here Maplewood. It was a fantastic weekend. Maplewood was well represented with great riding by Lisa Petersen-Trujillo, Wynette Helsel, Sadie Baeumler and Emily Anderson!

May promises to be a very busy month as well, with a big group of horses and riders heading to Sonoma Horse Park for two weeks of showing May 7-20. Good luck to everyone!

We are looking forward to the arrival of our new foals the end of the month, and mare watch starts now! We're excited for Marlee Comba to meet her new foal, which is the result of the "Create Your Own Foal" program.

Maplewood will again offer this opportunity to choose a Maplewood mare and a Maplewood stallion to create your dream horse. Talk to me for details!

We're honored to host the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Clinic on May 31-June 4, with three-time Olympian Jimmy Wofford as the clinician. Two dozen talented young riders are expected with their horses to occupy Maplewood's lower barn and arena. Auditors are welcome, and it's a great opportunity to learn from one of the best horsemen in our country. For more information about Jimmy, check out his monthly column in Practical Horseman magazine or do a Google search. He has quite a resume in horse sport and is an amazing teacher and coach!

I want to also send out a welcome to all of our new clients—it's great to have you with the Maplewood family!
